I was born in Laguna Beach, Calif. I grew up in Cambridge and NYC,
then moved with my mother to the Silver lake hills. She
worked as a switchboard operator at Universal Studios. She was friends with Cindy
Williams. We would get backstage passes to go and see "Laverne and Shirley"
episodes. Later she decorated the interior of Sly Stallone's Pacific Palisades
home. I owe everything to my mother.
When I was 7 years old I was visiting NYC and I took $5 and went to see
"Sinbad the Sailor". I saw the 12:30, 3:30 shows, and just before
the 6pm show was about to start, in enters my father with two cops, I remember
it like it was yesterday, I said, "Dad, can you come back in 2 hours? The
movie's about to start."
In the summer of '80 I took 3 buses from east Hollywood, to the Marina Del
Rey skateboard park, for over a 100 days in a row (3 hours each way). The best
night of my life: I did a backside air 1.5 feet out of the back keyhole. Christian
Hosoi's bionic backside airs, coupled with the most ferocious Canyon jumps
I've ever witnessed. Mike Smith ............. Those were the days.
I live in NYC where I spend my time creating music, film and writing screenplays.
